IMPORTANT

This site is about many Fundamental Human Rights, but REMEMBER:
Without understanding and focusing, primarily, on the MOST Fundamental of all human rights: the one, without which, we could have no other —THE RIGHT TO BE, we can never successfully protect and benefit from any other Fundamental Human Right at all.
So, please, make sure you go to THE RIGHT TO BE and THE RIGHT OF RIGHTS to understand and protect our MOST Fundamental Human Right TO BE.

THE ESSENTIALS

You have a fundamental human right to select others to represent you.

Power and money often adversely effect the ability of the electorate to have the chance to elect the person they desire to hold office.

Currently, millions of dollars must be raised by candidates to fund their elections or re-elections.
This is unnecessary.

Those who control the money want elections to be so expensive that people who would be good, honorable officials cannot run for office because they do not have the money or connections.
This, too, does not need to happen.

The internet and all public airways can be used to take the money, for the most part, out of the election process, making it accessible and more fair for all.

Unless we change our system, with the goal of becoming the most honorable possible, people will never have the option to elect the real candidate of their choice.

DISCUSSION

Today, politicians say they need to constantly raise money for their re-election. It is listed as their number one priority. The truth is that the political system is designed that way so only people capable of raising vast amounts of money can hold office. Also true is that political campaigns could be run with relatively little money, thereby, allowing the best people to run for office.

How is this possible?

Before we go further, it is important to say that fundamental human rights are normally far from the minds and hearts of those politicians who have to concentrate on raising such vast sums of money to retain power. Instead they concentrate on those who provide the funding for them to finance their campaigns.

The question here is: How is it possible to have campaigns run without having to raise such vast funds? The answer, like most, is right before our eyes.

The public, that is the people, already own the airways. We license radio, TV and cable stations to individuals and businesses, and charge them a fee as a result. As a condition of use of those airway, we (the people) could easily require them to provide free time to air debates and announcements regarding political candidates. Further, today, we have the internet that allows nearly anyone, including candidates, to provide information to others for a very little cost.

If we had the will and courage to put a truly fair system in place, we have the means to do that. But don't count on the major political parties to help bring this about. They have an interest in keeping things just the way they are. As long as the system stays as it is now, fundamental human rights of all types are in jeopardy.

Currently, public officials are violating the fundamental human rights of the vast majority of people throughout the country. Because they are so obligated to party bosses and the people who fund the parties, they (the public officials who are supposed to work for us) are willing to sell your rights down the drain so they can remain in office.

When we reform the election process, including campaign financing, we will get the officials who will act on our behalf. It really is all up to what we decide to settle for.
